We launched ERASE at an event at the Hammersmith Town Hall on Friday 17 August 2007. About 150 people attended the event. The evening started with a sit down Caribbean meal and refreshments courtesy of Grace foods.

There was also some entertainment laid on consisting of poetry, drumming and song. The entertainment commenced at around 7.30pm, which was opened by some African drumming. This was then followed by a blessing from Floetic Lara, a songstress and poet in her own rights. She performed some of her own poetry and sang a couple of songs.
We then heard from the founder of ERASE, Alwyn Simpson, who told the audience what led him to start this charity, about the current projects and his plans for future projects in The Gambia.

This was followed by various artists, who sang, read poetry and danced. The evening was rounded off with a raffle which was drawn by the Patron of the charity, Marcus Gayle.
The feedback from people who attended was that it was a positive evening and a great time was had by all.

Although the launch didn’t set out as a fundraising event, the charity managed to raise enough money for the trusses for the roof to be added to the community centre in Marakissa, which is the main project at present, from the evening.
