The ERASE Foundation is a small British charity that was set up to help people in Gambian villages with education and schools materials.

ERASE’s object is to provide help and support to people in the Gambia, so that they can improve their educational facilities and work towards self-empowerment.

The Foundation aims to empower communities and build sustainable resources.

Currently ERASE is involved in building a Community Centre in the Gambian village of Marakissa and a Free Nursery school in the village of Sukuta-Sanchaba. This work should be completed in 2010. The Community Centre will provide a day centre for women and young children, and also a skills centre for adult literacy and work skills. We have also put resources into educating blind and deaf children in the Gambia, and will be working in the future to set up adult educational facilities.

Through our work in Gambia we have built strong partnerships and continually encouraged inolvement from all sectors of the community. All of the materials used in the construction have been locally sourced and local people have been responsible for the building. At the moment, we are working alongside Regional Directorate of Education to help provide resources to local Government schools in Regions 1 and 2 which are in need of assistance. Many schools charge for education, which means that many local children do not have the opportunity to go to school. Our aim is to make education as accessible to as many children as possible.
